Current prime minister has lost a confidence vote

The current prime minister of Canada: Stephen Harper

In March 26th of 2011
The current prime minister of Canada, Stephen Harper lost the confidence of the House of Commons on Friday. Harper has been on his position for the last 5 years, and no other prime ministers in the past have went so long as without losing a vote to confidence. Harper has been criticized by other political leaders, including Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff. Ignatieff mentions that the current government has its senior members accused of election fraud, and the prime minister’s top advisor had been served in prison time for stealing money from his clients. Now, there will be an election held on May, and this result will determine the future of Canada’s prime minister.

As a perspective of a student, it is a great opportunity to observe the highlights of the political events that doesn’t occur often. This article, in which the prime minister of Canada who had never lost any votes to confidence for the last 5 years finally lost this month, is a big event.

The Leader of Liberal party: Michael Ignatieff
What really interests me in this article is how other parties are criticizing the current prime minister’s party. This really proves that Canada is a democratic country, where all of the beliefs and opinions are respected; just like what the Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff pointed his opinions.  I’m really curious on what is going to happen during the next election. From this article, the tone of the article seemed as if prime minister of Canada is going down and that there will be a new party replacing his position, because the prime minister’s government had been accused of doing something illegal. But in my opinion, these criticisms are the opinions that always exists in any democracy systems, and  I don’t think what the government had done is so critically bad that it will affect so much of their tasks as a leading party of Canada.
